Erica Castro began dancing at the age of 2 in Portland, Oregon. Dancing with Pacific Ballet Theatre and Oregon Ballet Theatre, she trained with Patricia Brewer-Jones, Nancy Davis-Lane, Meg Potter, Pamela Hayes and Sandra Baldwin. Erica attended intensives at PNBS and Burklyn Ballet Theatre, touring in Edingburgh, Scotland. She has performed numerous corps and lead roles in such productions as the Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, Blue Danube, Romeo & Juliet, Dennis Spaight’s Crayola, Gloria and Irish Suite, and Balanchines’s Seranade and Stars & Stripes.
Erica has a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (magna cum laude), with foci in Women’s Studies and Dance, a certificate in Social & Environmental Justice and a Masters in Teaching, all from Washington State University. In 2010 she was honored with WSUV’s Distinguished Woman of the Year Award. In 2011 she was offered a fellowship with the Martinez foundation. She was offered a fellowship with WSU’s STEM Education Partnership, and, she was accepted into the doctoral program, researching mathematical identities and the relationship between dance and mathematics.
Erica has been teaching ballet in the Portland/Southwest Washington area since 2008 in both private studios and companies, and public institutions such as the Vancouver and Evergreen School Districts. She homeschools her two children, Adyn and Nyssa. Together they enjoy exploring the outdoors on their farm, spending time with their dogs and cats, and raising chickens and goats.
