Beginning tappers learn classic tap technique, with a heavy emphasis on correct terminology, accuracy and tap clarity. Dancers progress to phrases and combinations, as they experiment with syncopation and weight distribution.
Once proficient, dancers improve their speed, experiment with percussive rhythm tap, and are encouraged to improvise. Students dance both a cappella, and to a broad range of accompaniment. At the advanced level, dancers take flight, and experience in multiple dance forms is helpful, as choreography expands to include elements of jazz and musical theatre.
